Why did I switch to Linux? How has my life changed and what is my experience after 6 years?
Introduction
Well, this is the first time I've tried this. So I'm writing a review on POP OS. But let's start at the beginning... What is POP OS. POP OS is a Linux distribution, that is, in kitchen language, a version of the Linux operating system. At least that's what I'd call it. It is based on the Ubuntu operating system and is developed by System 76. They also make hardware, and once I have a lot of money, I'll invest in a laptop.
What is POP OS?
This is one of my (if not my) favorite operating systems. Very easy to install. About 20 minutes. But if you don't want to install it in the first place, you can also try it out. So you can run it as if it were installed on your computer in its live state. Testing in this case is a mistaken term, because otherwise the operating system is completely free. LINUX.
Why LINUX?
The thing is, I've run into the Linux theme several times. I installed it, and then I missed the familiar WINDOWS environment. Which teaches you not to think. I mean, in the sense that everything runs right on it (or not), there's not a lot of trouble with it (or not), and everyone uses it. However, there was a situation where I started to do business. Since I like to do everything clean, I looked for an alternative that is cost effective and helps my work, as well as not expensive. There is no other option than Linux. I tried Ubuntu first, but I didn't really like it. Since then, I've loved it too. But after a long search, I found the opsystem called POP OS.
I read, I researched, and I got carried away. I got to the point where I put it on my laptop. I'm not saying it was hard to get used to as a newcomer. No more installation, because the slap is easy. It takes almost nothing. Not even in the knowledge. Rather, the learning curve was difficult in the beginning... Then a month passed. I've noticed that I'm already installing it on my desktop (and I'm putting Windows on my laptop to see if I need anything). well, it's been six years. I haven't had Windows on any of my computers since. I have 1 SSD with WIN because I needed it for my studies. But that's it.
The Psychology
If I had to approach the subject psychologically, I would say that the burden of at least 25 years has been removed from my shoulders. You'll really be free when you get off Windows. It's like when you quit smoking. You know it's a bad thing, but you can't stop. But once you can endure those few months... Well then... No more updates when you turn it off, no more updates when you turn it on... None. It's over. There are no useless memoria-eating programs. There are no driver problems. You just put the OP system on and everything's running, it's working. It's amazing.
A new life
Of course, a new life begins, because many things are not available for Linux. But to reassure you, you can play on it, for example. Steam and Epic store games are running. There is life after Photoshop and Illustrator. You just have to learn a little bit. But your life will change forever.
Technical aspect
If I look at it from a technical point of view, you win again. I put the POP OS on a laptop that's at least 15 years old. I remember Windows, I had to install it on the same machine by going out to the hanging corridor of my work place in the winter, and I put it there, because during the installation the machine was so warmed up that it broke in the middle and restarted. Now, with this same computer, POP OS, I have presentations that 20 Chrome tabs are open and have no problems. There are such differences. Or that it's completely free.
In fact, to say the least, you can do something like, with Shell Script, when the OP system is up, you start a single command, and it puts all the software you need in a circle. There is no next-next and no license key. No, I don't. It runs and it's up. It's working.
